Write Where You Are - How to Use Writing to Make Sense of Your Life - A Guide for Teens by Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, Ph.D.

I started keeping a journal steadily when I was sixteen. I can't even begin to tell you how that journal saved my life. I spent many years confused and angst ridden (like most teens) and writing was my way of letting off steam and making sense out of what was going on in my life. Writing was my way of expressing myself when speaking wasn't an option. I always advocate keeping a journal when people write to me and ask advice.
"Write Where You Are" is a guide for teens who want to use writing as a tool to make sense of the mostly senseless teen years. It contains writing exercises, advice and anecdotes from the author, who incidentally has been writing her way through life's weirdness since she was a teen. The really cool thing about this book is that it contains actual examples of student's writing to go along with every writing exercise.
This is a great beginning writing book for anyone who wants to get into writing, whether they are a teen or not. I highly recommend you add it to your library.
