Abel's Island by William Steig

If you've ever observed a kid at length, you know how much they love repetition. As in, "Can we watch 'Jurassic Park' again?!?" When I was a kid we didn't have a vcr (gosh, don't i sound old?) so I read. A lot. One of the books I read ad nauseam was "Abel's Island". It's about a fastidious mouse who is swept away from his new bride during a hurricane and ends up stranded on an island. It's a mouse version Robinson Carusoe for the 8-10 set. It's one of those books that doesn't fade with repeated readings. At least it was for me. Plus it's got cute illustrations, which is always important in my opinion. Any book with dapper, well dressed mice is aces.
