Thrashin'
So, I finally went skateboarding last night. No, I didn't buy a board - not yet at least. A while back my friend Jim left his old board out by my mailbox. It was just leaning there when I got home from work. There was a note on it that read, "Take this piece of wood". So I did. And it proceeded to lean up against my shelf unit for many months. I kept tripping over it. It got rather dusty. I still yearned to use it - but I never had the time, etc... Though It did come in handy as a scratching post for my kitty.
Last night, Kyle and I decided that we had had enough of just sitting around my apartment every night watching bland sitcoms. We went to Dojo for dinner and walked right through a movie set in Washington Square Park. Somehow or other we got on the subject of the skateboard. I said he should teach me this weekend. And then I said - "Hey! Why not right now?"
We ran home and dusted off that plank of wood and headed out. Kyle tried it out first, being the veteran skater and all. He's not so bad, though he admits he's a bit rusty. Then it was my turn. God. At first I could barely just stand on it without the darn thing flying out from under my feet, but as the night wore on I got better. Soon I could go all the way down the block and even turn around. Sure - I fell on my ass once. Just once. And boy howdy did it hurt. After all, I might think like a fifteen year old, but my bones are nine years older. Ah well. I'm excited anyway.
I can't wait until tonight. I want to feel the wind blowing through my hair as I balance precariously on a cracked wooden board two sizes too big, careening over pebbles and pot holes, as I grin from ear to ear.
